About the Project After Mrs. Leibowitz returned from a programming workshop in the summer of 2006, she shared her Pico-Cricket program with Ms. Baru. At the end of the 2006-2007, the Parents' Association funded the purchase of sixteen Pico-Cricket kits. From January through June of 2008, the third grade science classes met in the computer lab. Working collaboratively with Ms. Valentine and the classroom teachers, Mrs. Leibowitz embarked on teaching the students programming using Pico-Crickets. After an initial exploration of the program and its components, the students voted to create projects under the theme of "The Town" (which pretty much made it possible to include most project ideas). The students worked in pairs on a project. During the month of April students worked in art on an art component of their projects as well as working on the programming during science class. On May 28, 2008the students shared their projects with the other classes in the Lower School and with their parents. Below you can hear from the students themselves to gain a better understanding of the projects. |

Our project is a jail cell. It also takes place in a jail cell. In our project a man has a temper tantrum. Our project has more art than science. The reason that we made more art is because our project takes up a lot of space. We had a lot of steps to make our project as good as it is. We will tell you the six steps in a matter of milliseconds. Our "step uno" is we decided what our program would be. "Step dos" was to make the jail cell. "Step tres" was to make the courthouse and the decorations. Then we made the people. After that we checked over everything we made. The way our project fits in the class theme is every town needs a jail so when people do bad things, police can put them in jail. The reason we chose a jail is because we both like action, and jails have a lot of action. Thank you for listening to our project. This is a proud presentation of A and C Productions! Thank you!

A piano is our PicoCricket project. We chose it because it was cool! Our piano was made like this: We got the two pieces of paper we made them the same size. We put the newspaper between the two of them. And we taped them together. We covered in paper Mache and painted black and added legs. The sound sensor turns on the music. The light sensor turns on the lights. A piano player plays in the town. We decided on this project because we had to do a town theme.

Our project is a rescue helicopter. We made it because we thought a helicopter would be a cool project. First we put the motor on. Then we set power to 100 . Then we made a song called jail. Then we connected jail to the program. Then we made a song called Star Wars. Then if you cover the light sensor and make it dark it plays Star Wars. Well, we like building vehicles and we already built a car, so we built a helicopter. Our project fits the theme because we think if you went to a town, you would see a helicopter.

Our project is a Music Store. It has a million things in it. There is a desk that you can check out at with your Music Card. The first step was deciding what to do. The second step was testing on the computer. One of the songs we thought of the song, then figured out how to play it on the keyboard. When it is dark, the songs Katie and 7 seas play. Third step was making sure the project works. Fourth step was finding the box to do the art part. Fifth step was doing the details. Sixth step was getting filmed. We chose the music store because we love making songs perfect. It fits into the town theme because, well you have to have a music store, right?
