Earlier in this school year, the fourth grade studied the decline of manufacturing in New York City. The notion that areas have economic good times and bad times, and that they must be able to sell themselves on their strengths was not lost on the students. In their next unit, the fourth graders studied the geography of the United States. One of their final projects was to come up with a commercial for one particular state. Each child researched his/her state. They also learned more about the state from a friend or relative who hails from the state to be studied. These friends/relatives kept a diary of a stuffed animal, which was hosted for a month. For most of the children, making the commercial was their first experience with the iMovie application. After writing a script and filming their performance, the children embellished their commercials using tools of the iMovie software. The movies you will be viewing attempt to "sell" the state. Some movies are directed towards tourists, some to farmers, and some to budding venture capitalists. Regardless of which group you identify most with, we hope you enjoy the commericials. |
